A breakover is the perfect way to make yourself feel better after a bad breakup.
If you’re feeling down in the dumps about being dumped, maybe it’s time to get over that love by showing yourself a little love. Changing your look might be the perfect way to change your currently–bleak outlook on dating since the new you just might attract the eye of a guy who’s nothing like your awful ex.
However, a post–breakup makeover isn’t all about looking good – you also want to do things that make you feel good, and you also want to get over your ex. Here are a few ways to give yourself the perfect breakover:
Breakover Tips: 5 Ways to Get Over a Breakup
Be bold
Now’s the perfect time to experiment with a whole new look. Perhaps there’s a haircut and color that you’ve always been tempted to try but haven’t gone through with out of fear that you couldn’t pull it off. You’ll never know unless you try it, so go for it! You’ll be symbolically leaving the old you behind for a newer, better you who’s ready move on and start over.
Go shopping
Engage in a little retail therapy by trying on clothes until you find an outfit that makes you look amazing, then arrange a girls’ night out in a week or two. Vow not to wear your outfit until then so that you’ll have something to look forward to.
Work it out
You’ll want a new bod to go with your new look, so now’s a great time to head to the gym to get you some revenge abs. Try to tailor your workouts to your personal needs. For example, if you’re angry at your ex, pick up boxing so that you can imagine his stupid face on that punching bag. If you feel like you need to find peace, try to relax by taking some yoga classes. And if you want to feel sexy, have fun by taking a pole dancing or belly dancing class.
Go cold turkey
Greg Behrendt, the author of It’s Called a Breakup Because It’s Broken, recommends going on a “he–tox” after a breakup. This means that you’re not allowed to have any contact with your ex for a period of 60 days after you break up. You’ve also got to un–friend him on Facebook and resist the urge to stalk him using social media. In order to move on, you’ve got to stop living in the past.
Pamper yourself
Instead of wallowing in self pity, use your breakup as a chance to celebrate yourself. Invite your girlfriends out for a nice spa day or relax at home by hopping in a hot bubble bath with a good book (preferably one that has nothing to do with romance). You want to show yourself that you don’t need a special someone to make you feel special and happy – you can create your own happiness.
